| Metropolitan BancGroup lease includes naming rights at Legacy Center
Metropolitan BancGroup, Inc., will open its Memphis headquarters in Legacy Center in a deal that includes exclusive naming rights to the building. Metropolitan signed a 10-year lease to take about 8,000 square feet on Legacy Center's ground floor for a retail branch, office and conference space for the bank's Memphis staff, says Phillip May, Metropolitan's executive vice president. About 2,000 square feet will be used for retail and private banking, with the remainder set aside for bank executives and support staff, May says. The retail branch is relatively small since the focus of Metropolitan will be largely on private banking and commercial lending, May says, with some mortgage origination services and, down the road, trust services. .

Money funds will dodge this bullet with reputations for safety and stability intact, experts predict, and while investors would do well now to review their funds' holdings, they can be confident that these won't become money-losing funds. "There's no such thing as a dangerous money fund," said Peter Crane, president of CraneData.com, which tracks the money-fund industry. "These types of problems have occurred in money funds before, and every time the funds adjust and adapt." Still, the worsening credit crunch is hitting money funds harder than at any time since the early 1990s.
